Fancy Zankou open in Toluca Lake

Trying to eat all that I should eat every day for me and Peanut is harder than you think. According to the book I’m reading, I’m supposed to get three servings of protein, three servings of Vitamin C, four servings of calcium, three to four servings of green leafy and yellow vegetables, one to two servings of other fruits, six servings of whole grains and legumes a day, eat plenty of iron-rich foods, plus about four servings daily of healthy fats.

Dude. That is not an easy feat to accomplish.

Anyway, Saturday, I had a hankering for chicken, so I sought out the four-month-old location of Zankou in Toluca Lake.

Now, after I wrote the article about the pending Burbank location, I never got a chance to check out the gussied-up Zankou decor. But if this Toluca Lake location is any indication….not bad at all. Its definitely a far cry from the old school Zankou cafeteria look.

Of course, they’ve still got the board of menu item pictures, and the roasting-meat-on-a-spit behind the counter.

And! There’s an outdoor seating area! The locations I used to frequent all the time — Glendale and Hollywood — had nothing of the sort. Of course, I wouldn’t have recommended it in Hollywood.

Anyway, Google has this location as North Hollywood, but Zankou’s site calls it Toluca Lake. I’m so glad I don’t have to go all the way to Van Nuys anymore.
