#linsanity

I was at work last night, trying to finish up so I could get home to my family, when I saw multiple tweets from my buddy Marc, making jokes about Jeremy Lin. I knew who Jeremy Lin was, but Marc was a baseball and football dude — why was he tweeting Lin jokes? Turns out every Asian American I knew (and I know a lot of them, obviously) on Twitter and Facebook was tweeting the heck out of the Knicks/Lakers game — all in favor of Jeremy Lin.

But it wasn’t just an Asian American thing — Jeremy Lin has captured the attention of all basketball lovers. What is it about this guy? Is it simply because he’s the first American of any Asian descent to really do well in basketball? Is it because he’s Christian? Is it because he happened to explode on the scene in New York, where dreams either come true or die, and not much in between? I’m trying to figure it out.

(Trinity, by the way, was mostly just so irritated by the Lakers horrible shooting night that he didn’t even want to hear any discussion about Lin. I think he thinks I have a crush on him, but that’s not the case. Lin is simply a fascinating case study of sudden celebrity.)

Lost another favorite Laker to Texas

What the heck is it with my favorite Lakers ending up in Texas? First Robert Horry (and I wonder if the Lakers watched in chagrin as he collected two more NBA rings with the Spurs?), now Trevor Ariza. Criminy. And for Ariza we get Ron Artest?! Really???

I succumbed to Twitter

I’ve been given some grief about this by some of my blogosphere buddies since I’ve pooh pooh’ed Twitter for so long. After blogging, Flickr and Facebook, do I need another Online Time Suck? Apparently, because I’ve been on Twitter for the past couple of months and am now approaching 200 Tweets. *Facepalm*

However, it did give me the opportunity to kind of do a temporary redesign on another online property (I originally got on Twitter to preserve the darleeneisms name) in honor of the Lakers as they make another championship run. I’ve also been Twittering the games, mostly at work, from time to time at home, if I’ve got the laptop in front of me. If you end up following me, don’t expect insight into the game or anything; I mostly grouse at the officiating and make silly comments. Follow me @darleeneisms or here.

Nike setting up Kobe-LeBron matchup

If you’ve seen any of the NBA playoff games, you’ve seen one of these commercials.

They’re absolutely hilarious and actually quite genius — using Muppet Kobe and Lebron? Priceless. The first one I’d seen was the one above, the 3 championship rings. I’ve been seeing guys around my station repeating the “have you seen my 3 championship rings?” line all week. Oh, but there’s more.
