Wedding Decorator redesigned!

It took me most of December, but I finally brought Wedding Decorator into the new decade. I hadn’t redesigned Wedding Decorator since 2008. I think in between 2008 and now, I may have tweaked the header a little, but that doesn’t do much. I’d planned to redesign Wedding Decorator sometime this year, but when it became apparent that, yes, I would definitely be having a baby, the timing was perfect — I’d use some time during my maternity leave to do the redesign.

Experimenting with my themes

Yes. As you can see I’ve messed around with my theme again. That’s sort of the beauty of WordPress, you can experiment with colors, typography, different types of sidebars, if you want — obviously, I’ve always favored right-side sidebars — and headers. Previously, I was using Sandbox’s child theme Essay, which I think is still quite nice.

But I have something else in mind.

I really love typography, but another thing that I’ve been kind of seeking is simplicity. There are a lot of really fancy, graphics-heavy themes out there that look really cool — but are not me. In fact, if I put them on, I don’t think I could look at them every day. Which is why I took down DailyPress. Its not that it wasn’t a nice theme, because it is. I just couldn’t look at it anymore.

Anyway, I have a design in mind, so I am going to keep working on it, with some help from my graphic-artist friends. For once, the design I have in mind is not something Trinity can do easily. So bear with me as I experiment with my themes. The one I’m using now is called Thematic.

Change abounds…again

As you can see, I’ve changed my theme design….again. I know, I just changed it about six months ago, right? What can you do, I get restless, and I was increasingly unhappy with the design I had. I think I was tired of having three columns (this is sort of a journal right?), plus I didn’t like the colors anymore. So I changed it up.

I’ve found a few designs I like, but I seem to like elements of many, rather than the whole of one. I know, this probably means I should just design my own theme, but I’m loathe to jump into CSS and PHP all on my own.

So don’t be surprised if you see this blog change yet again. I’m really into design, but am not very good at designing my own stuff. I think the last time I was really happy with my blog’s design was when I had that swirly image — remember that? Man, that was a long time ago.

Speaking of, I keep asking people what they think of when they think of me. I can’t think of one icon or symbol or image that might actually convey the sum total of my blog. First I thought it was newspapers, then I thought of my old iBook, then sunglasses…someone else said they always think of my long hair. I don’t know! I am at a loss. So if you could help me out here, at all, that would be great.
