City News Service makes good
Not too many people know that I worked a few months on the cops desk at City News Service, before I became a reporter at the Glendale News-Press. The cops desk was located at Parker Center. It was a grungy room, more like a closet, with a few scanners and a couple of small TV sets that barely had color and a pretty disgusting phone. But it was good experience, and I think about it every time someone tells me to take City News Service stories with a grain of salt because their information is almost always inaccurate.
Well, the City News Service reporters proved those naysayers wrong. It turns out it was a City News Service reporter who broke the story about LAPD officers going undercover inside the Occupy LA camp. From Fishbowl LA:
Duchon’s dispatch was quickly picked up yesterday evening by MyFOXLA and the LA Times, and since then by all manner of local, national and international media.

A night at the Americana at Brand
Six or so years ago, my Glendale News-Press coworkers and I were so sick of hearing about the proposed Americana at Brand. We’d done seemingly millions of stories abut the project — traffic impact, projected revenues for the city, and most importantly, the conflict with the company that owns the neighboring Glendale Galleria. The project was so controversial in Glendale, they had a special election about it.
Lost in a WordPress redesign
I desperately wanted to take my eyes off my laptop screen, but I wanted to write a little bit here. Yes, I’m in the midst of a redesign, but not for this site — this site’s already done! No, I’m in the middle of redesigning Wedding Decorator, and the fact that I’m doing it on my laptop while sitting on my couch in front of my TV is kind of driving me bananas. It doesn’t help that WordPress has changed drastically since the last time I redesigned my sites in 2008.
Geez, I have cute kids
There’s really not much to update. I’m still on leave, so I’m doing quite a bit of work on Wedding Decorator and this site. In fact, don’t be surprised if you see a new look here very soon. But I figured it was time to post some pictures of my adorable boys. Oh, and Chris is not yet sleeping through the night, but he’s doing better. I’m trying to limit his naps during the day two 5 hours (like a 3-hour nap in the morning and a 2-hour nap in the afternoon) so that he starts actually sleeping at night. But having Michael and Trinity come home at 6:30-7 p.m. kind of messes him up, and he ends up staying up till 11 or so. We’ll get there.
