Help wanted on Craigslist

I check the writing/editing section of Craigslist every day — not really to find a new job, but to see if there are any freelance gigs I could pick up in the little spare time I have (although, I think I’m not very good at selling myself; I had a lead for a freelance WordPress thing recently and I think I blew it, but oh well). I also like to see if there are things I can forward to my friends who are out of work.

Anyway, I found two very interesting ads. One was from one of my favorite sites, I Can Has Cheezburger? It seems they need some moderators:

A job I wouldn’t want

OK, maybe this might qualify as a dirty job. Either way, I would not want to do this:

Specimen Specialists, Inc. is seeking a highly competent individual to perform BUCCAL SWAB collections for court ordered paternity cases at CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES located in: CASTAIC, CA
You must be extremely reliable, accountable, and possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a cooperative attitude.
DEPENDABILITY A MUST!
RATE OF PAY: $20 per collection PLUS .30 cents per mile

Just imagine the pictures that this ad conjures up. They’re looking for people, including HOME MOMS. They want to pay people to go stick swabs into an inmate’s mouth. For paternity cases.

I guess $20 per collection is enough, considering once you’re there, the hard part is done. But 30 cents a mile? C’mon, gas prices on average are at $3.40 a gallon. It’s already hard enough getting yourself to the correctional facility. Give a little here.

Need buzz, get a blogger?

I found this in Craigslist’s writing gigs:

Hi. I am looking for a “Blogger” to write about a new product on a variety of Internet sites, blogs, social communities, etc.

Should have a knack for this.

Would not pay a lot, but could work out a situation where you feel comfortable.

I’m looking for some great “BUZZ”.

I’m not too sure if these folks know how many blogs there are out there, and how easily their “BUZZ” can get lost in the rest of the “BUZZ.” Whatever, it’s his/her money.

Getting paid to blog

Sounds good, right? But you want to do it this way? I found this under Craigslist’s writing gigs:

Hi! We are looking for people to blog about our product! If your blog qualifies, we will pay you $50 for what should not take more than 15 or 20 minutes of work.

Interested? Just send me an e-mail with the address of your blog, and if you qualify I will e-mail you back with directions.

Me? I’m already suffering remorse at putting so many Google and Amazon ads up. The Amazon ads are doing horrendously, though, so I might take those down.
