Contrary to popular belief, I find writing about myself difficult.

I was born and raised in the Southern California area — born in Los Angeles, raised in the unincorporated area of Hacienda Heights and now live in the San Fernando Valley. If you asked whether I consider myself a blogger or a journalist, well, I would have to admit I was a blogger first, then I went to school to become a journalist. I became obsessed with journalism at the Cal State Fullerton Daily Titan, where I somehow became known as intimidating, no-nonsense and aggressive. Go figure! I honed my craft at places like the Arizona Republic, City News Service here in LA and really got thrown into the fire at the Glendale News-Press, where I became forever linked to my coverage of the Glendale Police sexual harassment trial. I have covered cops, courts, fire, education, business and politics and spent 17 years as an online news producer at CBS News Los Angeles.

Whilst on this journey of being a blogger/journalist, I met this guy who wanted to be a freelancer at the Daily Titan while I was news editor. Fast forward three or so years later and we got married under an arch of trees in San Pedro’s Point Fermin Park. Trinity is a journalist too, so he actually encourages me to run toward the fires rather than away, since he knows that’s what we do. He still doesn’t like my habit of taking pictures while driving, though. And the last few years have been busy — in 2010, we welcomed a baby boy we named Michael; in 2011, we welcomed another boy we named Christopher. In 2014, we welcomed our last baby, a boy named Elliott — and no, he was not an attempt for a girl. Actually, I enjoy having all boys, but they are definitely a lot of work!

As for this here blog, I’ve had my online presence since even before blog was a word. I had been blogging straight since April 1998 — even though some of those blog posts have been made anonymously, while I was a newspaper reporter. What do I write about? Anything and everything. I love to write about playing tourist in my hometown, my boys and quirky aspects of my job, but I tend to also enjoy discussions about Christianity, race and journalism, among other things.

Please enjoy your visit with me and if you decide to visit regularly, maybe we’ll have coffee one day. :)
