New California driver licenses

I was shocked to find my new driver’s license in the mail less than two weeks after going to renew it in Santa Paula. First off, I’d been hearing the DMV was delayed in delivering documents like licenses and registration. Apparently not! Second, the look of the new license was surprising. There were all sorts of new duplication-prevention designs on it.

Here’s the DMV’s explainer image.

And here’s what I got in the mail, compared to what I’d been carrying around the last few years.

So my license doesn’t have three images, like the explainer, nor does it have the bear. But it does have my birthdate in three different places, including in raised numerals on my main photo. My signature is also raised to the touch — that tactile, laser signature — in two places — in the front, where I black-barred it, and in the back.

The little pink organ donor circle is also no longer a sticker — its now part of the card’s image. LOL, Trinity apparently didn’t know I was signed up to be an organ donor and was like, “uh, I think we should talk about this.” But its no big deal.

My old card, in comparison, looks so….sparse.

Sigh. I just wish I wasn’t 5 months pregnant when having to take a photo for a card I have to carry around for the next five years.
