Announcing Michael
One thing I think I was most excited to do when it came to having a new baby was sending out birth announcements. Is that crazy? Maybe so, but I didn’t have a traditional wedding, didn’t have a bridal shower and I have a thing for paper products like custom invitations. Besides, with a face like Michael’s, who wouldn’t want to send a card to the world?
I’m pretty sure most everyone who should have a card has gotten one, so check it out after the jump.
How we decided on this card was a process. When you do a search for birth announcement, you get all sorts of options….none of which had designs Trinity and I liked. I originally wanted Trin to design the card, but since Michael came early and under less than ideal conditions, we opted to get a ready-made design.
We ended up going with Paperspring, which had some really fresh designs that used fonts nicely. (Trin and I are all about fonts.) I had the card selected for a few weeks, and we finally ordered the cards on March 1. Guess when we got the cards? March 3. I had checked the tracking that morning and was shocked to discover it said it was already delivered. Lo and behold, the box was on our doorstep. And they looked great.
I was amazed at how good the cards looked, and how fast they got to us, so I set about researching why. Turns out Paperspring is the online arm of Charlie Chan Printing, which I so happened to have visited last year for Trivia Bowl. Charlie Chan had done Trivia Bowl XV’s booklets and did a bang-up job — one Trivia Bowl veteran said it was the best printed program the event has ever had, even though we paid much less than the previous year.
(And I remember thinking that Paperspring sounded vaguely familiar, but didn’t realize why until my little investigation…it was because it was mentioned in this Los Angeles Magazine article that led us to Charlie Chan in the first place.)

Your beautiful son’s birth announcement is posted on our fridge where we can admire him every day. Hugs all around!
