Journalists get together

I was at SPJ‘s regional conference Saturday and got a chance to take pictures with former co-workers/friends while I was there….(I know these pictures are late, but I had a busy weekend, OK???)

My former city editor, Ryan Carter, pictured above spoke at the “Boonies” panel – which basically discussed the pitfalls and rewards of starting your career in a small market or at a small paper. I took this picture after the panel discussion finished. The discussion was somewhat lively, with me asking quite a few questions, knowing how some students have no idea what they’re getting into when they start out…

And here’s Rita (an old college friend) and Mark after the same panel….I think. Rita’s a community reporter for the Register and Mark is now a reporter for the San Fernando Biz Journal. He escaped the Burbank Leader!

Rita, along with Leslie Simmons of the Daily Journal (also a Burbank Leader/Glendale News-Press alum) talked at a panel about whether to stay and whether to go…

Of course, I always have to be in a picture….here, we’re relaxing on the front lobby’s veryyyy comfortable couches…

Ah, but parting is such sweet sorrow….till the next journalism conference!
